Hello Everybody

I have problem with TNSListener, I installed oracle 10g and I had not have any problem, but when since I installed Oracle developer suite 10g the TNSLister service stopped working by no reason.

The error message which I have got is :
"The OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener service on Local Computer started and the stopped. Some services stopped automatically if they have no work to do, for example the Performance log Alerts service."

and when I try sqlplus "/ as sysdba" on command prompt I have got this error : "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"

Would you please help me???
I don't want to reinstall Oracle please help me
thank you in advance
Samin

You are right that there some services that stop and starts when they are required to perform there work. But the Listener service must be started with the database otherwise you will not be able to connect to Oracle.

This is so because Listener is the one who is responsible to take or to listen your request to Oracle Database.

I think this is the classic tnsnames.ora, listener.ora, sqlnet.ora problem. Please search this forum for these three files for posts relating to the problems that other people have had with these three files.

Basically, you need to see how many copies of these files that you have on your PC and make sure that, internally, they are in agreement with each other.

I believe that you may be trying to run two listeners for the same port or one listener for two ports.

Review your files and tell us how many you found, where they are, and any data inconsistencies in them.

Hi djmartin

I have 2 TNSnames.ora one for Oracle10g and the other for Developer 10g
Should I delete one of them??? If yes which one ?

But you know once I renamed the Developer folder, but TNSListener wasn't start; so do you think if I delete one of the tnsnames.ora 's, it will start??

WHY DID YOU RENAME A DIRECTORY??? If you want to use a different name, uninstall that Oracle product and then reinstall it.

hi
you must install developer at first (in \orant ) and then install oracle database in \oracle\ora10 .
when you install oracle database you must set home and path :
home: orahome10
path \oracle\ora10

i use above with oracle database 9 ande developer 6i
and work good.

TNSListener hadn't work before I renamed the directory.

Maybe it seems funny for you but if I were you instead of making fun of others, I would teach them what to do.
