To acheive an url in a layout editor what r the appropriate items and triggers to be used?

Just create an item that is NOT bevelled, make it underscored and blue and it will look like a URL field. You can even change the colour after it has been used. You then use a when-mouse-doubleclick trigger to feed the url into a host command to display your page in IE or whatever.

Search this forum for 'host'. There are plenty of examples.
