i have a weird question.

my colleague was working on form builder 10g, but he didnot start OC4J. i asked him why he didnot start it.
he said, he never started it and he is working on form builder 10g since 2 years now without starting it.

will there be any problem if we dont start oc4j and work on the form builder?
if there will be any issue, then how will it effect the application??

and also he was getting the error "FRM-18122: Form Builder Debugger failed to initialize " whenever he started the form builder 10g.

why is this??

thanks

OC4J (Oracle Containers For J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition)) is the J2EE runtime component of Oracle Application Server.

As far as I can tell, you can use Forms Developer 10g without starting OC4J but you can't run the form without it. Or, you have to have Oracle Application Server (Forms Server) which would do the job. However, for development purposes, people use OC4J because it is much simpler (as it is part of Developer Suite (10g) installation) than installing the Application Server.

Perhaps you should ask your colleague how does he run a form he creates.

We dont run the form through form builder. we have OAS server.

so it will not effect if we dont start OC4j as we have OAS server right ??

and what about FRM-18122: Form Builder Debugger failed to initialize ????

thanks

As I've said, if you run forms on OAS, you don't need OC4J.

As of your second question, this is what Oracle says:Oracle
FRM-18122: Oracle Forms Debugger failed to Initialize.
Cause: Oracle Forms Debugger could not be initialized
Action: Check your development environment.
I wouldn't know what exactly you should "check" as I've never seen such an error. Though, perhaps reinstalling Developer Suite might resolve the problem.

Also, you might want to check Metalink note mentioned in this OTN Forms forum thread.

I think you will find that the Debugger needs OC4J running.
