by CMD

its showing there in small box ...."server is started and ready"

Wrong. What makes you think that? This is a full version.

Report server didn't start because you don't know how to properly start it. I believe that the exact way to do that is described in documentation. I didn't have to start it by myself (DBAs do that) so I don't know the answer (and don't feel like searching at the moment - but you might take some time). Or, wait a little bit longer - perhaps someone else will be able to help.

what I think is that you have messed up the things in your machine. In another post, you described that you are using Developer version 9. You installed before 10g version 10. May be your installation itself is corrupted. Tell us what oracle installations you have in your machine?
Your operating system? Your oracle version? Your forms versions?

I mean tell us what you have installed in your machine and where in the machine? (c drive, d drive , edrive etc....)

Have you solved your problem? Verify that the two report servers are using a different port number.

thanks for repy sir,
yes sir two ports are using by both report servers one port is 8889 and another port is 8890 but i am facing problem in 10G-v10.1(port--8890)...but previous version(10G-v9.0.4)is working fine

the error in 10G-v10.1.is: Rep-51002 bind to report server

i do not know how to solve this problem,should i use application server or should i leave this version? its not like previous because in previous version we can start and stop report server by using windows services.msc but for the v10.1.2 after creating report server its not showing report server there in the services.msc

i hope i hope someone will help in this regard.

Is there any specific reason that you want to use both version 9.0.4 and 10.1.2?
Why don't you simply use one version only either 9 or 10?

Did you try to install developer 9 or 10 in another folder and it failed?

I think you have messed up the installation of developer for both versions. I suggest to use only one version may be 10.1.2.0.2

Saadat Ahmad

try a different server name for 10g reports. if the server name you are giving for 9i reports is server1 try to start server2 for 10g.

For the other part of your question, which users you want to create in your database? Application users? If yes did you try to create?

Hint: Create one table with user names and passwords

Anti-hint: I'd rather let Oracle deal with security (usernames and their passwords) than creating a table which contains passwords (which can, furthermore, be easily read and abused).

In that case, FORMS_DDL built-in might be what you are looking for. Note that you have to have required privileges in order to be able to create a user.

Please look at the use of 'roles' for users. You should create a role that has the necessary accesses to your user objects and by granting the other users that role they will have those accesses to your data.

Introduction to roles.

Shortly:

  • create a role (CREATE ROLE statement)
    SQL> create role my_role;

    Role created.

  • grant privileges to the role (GRANT statement)
    SQL> grant select on emp to my_role;

    Grant succeeded.

    SQL> grant insert on dept to my_role;

    Grant succeeded.

  • grant role to a user (GRANT statement again)
    SQL> grant my_role to mike;

    Grant succeeded.

Which privileges did you grant?

Please, copy and paste your SQL*Plus session (just like I did) so that we could see what you were doing.

Why didn't you copy-paste that part of the story as well? In other words: prove your statement!
