Oracle 10g IAS and PCL Printer Problem [message #342865]

We are having Oracle 10g IAS running on Linux OS. We are migrating Forms/Reports 6i on Cleint-Server to Web.I some of the reports we have code to dynamic switch paper trays of the printer during runtime using:

 SRW.SET_PRINTER_TRAY

The code is working good in current settings of 6i.On Linux,the above code is not working and on it the Oracle Support said that Linux has limitation to not work in tray switching from reports if the printer is a PCL printer.We have all PCL printers only and it is not possible to replace.

I am just wondering if any one have any idea on any patch or any way out to solve this problem.

Create seperate print queues for each 'tray'. Direct the printout to the various queues.

Could you please share any example? I can ask my Unix administrator to create diffrent queues but how to direct report output from report to diffrent queues?I mean 1st page to 1 queue and 2 page to another.
Please share yours valuable thoughts.

I googled 'PCL different tray Oracle Reports' and found 'Oracle Application Server Reports Services Publishing Reports to the Web
10g (9.0.4), Part Number B10314-01' at http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B10314_01/pbr_uxprt.htm which contains "How do you dynamically change the printer tray setting in the midst of a print job?"

Hi David

See the line from the site you mentioned earlier.

On UNIX, this functionality is supported for PostScript output but not PCL output. For PCL, Oracle Reports ignores the commands for changing orientation and paper tray. Although dynamically changing the orientation and printer tray for PCL is not supported on UNIX, you can change them at runtime through the print dialog box for PCL. [/quota]

We have 100's PCL printers and it is not possible to replace.Do you have any idea of any alternative way for this.

HI David,

i have the same problem like mandeep has and i am genarating the output as a pdf on a windows platform. How can send the pdf to different trays on the printer??
